For many years, the iO (formerly Improv Olympic) served as a training ground for improvisers interested in studying ensemble-oriented techniques from the late guru Del Close. Now, with the success of Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Rachel Dratch, and Mike Meyers, it’s clear that training has paid off. This historic theater plays host to weekly long-form improv shows, as well as experimental improv and sketch in its upstairs space. The popular Improvised Shakespeare Company and Whirled News Tonight call this Wrigleyville mainstay home.
